“Welcome to shelter home,Mrs Ijaz.”A pretty lady, Imtiaz Fatima was standing on the upper end of the ramp that I was pushing my wheel chair up. She was supporting herself on a crutch.”We have tried to materialize your dream of helping the handicapped.”She added proudly.
A bunch of ambitious persons who had gone through the agony of physical handicap, decided to save others and prepare them for independent respectable living under the umbrella of VOICE SOCIETY
In cooperation with Social welfare Department they arranged a function to recognize and award the achievers among the so called handicapped. That’s how I came to contact them in 2010.
In a corner of the room where I was shaking hands with resident children, a little boy in wheel chair was avidly extending arms towards me. As I hugged him to my heart, something clicked……They need a permanent house.. 56/4 TIP3 Housing Society Lahore came to be built exclusively from my old age saving to return to my homeland a chunk of what I received from it: an honorable (though highly challenging and tough) life, an identity, in the role of a daughter, wife, mother, teacher and head of English Department, Lahore College for Women University, Lahore. Auto biography written in English and Urdu, now translated in Arabic, acted as wakeup call about the rights and tremendous potential that Nature grants to us.
The purpose, passion and vision of the VOICE team inspired me to join them in this their selfless philanthropic mission. People are eager to do a lot for furthering this noble cause provided that they stay honestly determined to help the afflicted humanity.
I foresee a very bright future of this NGO.
